Level 1: The Foundation of the Coaching Pathway
Level 1 prepares coaches to deliver safe, effective, and engaging Chase Tag® sessions while progressing athletes through the Competitive Pass’Sport progression system.
What You Will Learn
The certification covers six modules spread across 30 chapters:
Module 1: Coaching Foundations
Your role as an L1 coach, coach presence and communication, safety responsibilities, warm-up design, injury response, ethics and athlete safeguarding, introducing beginners to Chase Tag®, and understanding the WCT coaching ecosystem.
Module 2: Teaching the Sport
Using the Competitive Pass’Sport as a development framework, teaching movement, WCT techniques, game strategy, physical preparation, demonstration and cueing skills, designing exercise progressions, calibrating assessments, and supporting athletes through plateaus.
Module 3: Session Design and Delivery
Session structure and flow, library of games and drills, designing sessions for different contexts, delivery skills, group dynamics and behaviour management, multi-session planning, assessment and iteration, troubleshooting, and planning tools.
Module 4: Equipment and Venues
Inspection and maintenance, designing and assessing the safety of an improvised Quad™, coaching without a Quad™, adapting sessions to constraints, equipment logistics, and failure protocols.
Module 5: Community and Business
Community leadership, running Squared™ Ranked Sessions, supporting competitive athletes, and contributing to official events.
Module 6: Practical Placement with a Mentor
Placement overview, finding your mentor and working with them, requirements, assessment criteria, running the placement, and building your career after certification.
Who This Training Is For
The L1 certification is designed for those ready to move from practitioner to coach. Candidates must have a solid understanding of Chase Tag® movement, have completed the Foundation Training, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to athlete development. No prior coaching experience is required.
Structure
The programme combines online training with a supervised practical placement of at least 20 coaching hours, including 10 hours of observation alongside a mentor. Most candidates complete certification within 2 to 4 months.
Outcomes
Once certified, you can deliver training sessions under the WCT brand, assess athletes at the White, Green, and Blue Pass’Sport levels, run Squared™ Ranked Sessions, and represent WCT as a certified coach. The L1 forms the foundation of a coaching career, with specialisation pathways and access to L2 certification.
